But today, we’re shaking things up: we’re going back to the basics.

Why? Because we’re suffering from what you might call “the curse of expertise.” We assume that since we’ve been living for almost three years in the rhythm of one GenAI release after another — which, in this world, feels like entire eras passing — everyone else must be doing the same. We believe the fundamentals are long behind us.

Nothing could be further from the truth. There’s still a huge crowd of professionals, creators and managers who are just beginning their journey. They’re curious but feel lost. They want to start but don’t know how.

As leaders of this change, our role is not just to look toward the future but also to build bridges. This article is meant to be such a bridge. I’ve looked back at all my experiences and thousands of experiments to extract the most crucial lessons.

I’ve created a list of dos and don’ts — some practical commandments for those who want to consciously step into the world of AI. Treat this as a material you can use in your teams, during training sessions, or just send to friends when they ask: “Dude, how do you actually use this?”. Let’s start bridging the gap between our bubble and reality.

So, how do you effectively guide someone (or yourself) through this new world? How do you turn the information overload into real skills? Based on my experience so far, I’ve divided this guide into three fundamental areas: the mental foundations (mindset), quick engagement (practice) and what I call “technical responsibility” (data hygiene and security).

1. Mindset: How to think about AI (before you even start)

This is where you either win or lose the battle for AI adoption. Before you open any tool, you need to get your own head in order. It’s the foundation on which you’ll build — or fail to build — real skills.

DON’TS:

Don’t start because of FOMO, which is the worst advisor. It makes you act reactively, not strategically. It leads directly to chaos: compulsively collecting bookmarks for articles like “Top 100 AI tools” (which you’ll never read), enrolling in five courses at once (which you’ll never finish) and subscribing to 20 newsletters that will clutter your inbox. This generates information overload, increased anxiety and quick burnout, ending with the realization: “Maybe this is not for me.”

DOs:

Approach this methodically and calmly. It’s not a 100-meter sprint — it’s a marathon. In fact, it’s a new element of the landscape that will stay with us. You need to learn how to navigate it, not sprint through it. The goal is not to “learn AI over a weekend,” but to build a lasting habit of using new tools.

Give yourself time. As we often repeat in our free course “Introduction to Szubartowski’s Method,” your mind needs the right conditions to learn, and stress and haste are definitely not among them. According to Ryszard Szubartowski, the brain requires about 21 days to truly “absorb” new concepts and begin to build lasting neural pathways. Choose one tool and one specific goal (for example, “I want AI to help me write better emails”). Dedicate 15 minutes a day to this for three weeks. It’s far more effective than one chaotic, eight-hour burst.

Checklist

Your goal: To build a lasting habit, not just to complete a sprint.

Do I have a real goal?

Instead of: “I want to learn about AI”. -> Better: “I want to use AI to write weekly reports 15 minutes faster”.

Am I avoiding FOMO?

Am I consciously ignoring the “news of the day” and focusing on one tool or one method that I want to master this week?

Have I given myself enough time?

Do I have a specific, realistic block of time set aside in my calendar for studying, like three 20-minute sessions a week, instead of just hoping for a “free moment”?

Am I patient?

Do I accept that my first prompts will be poor and the results mediocre? Do I see this as part of learning rather than a failure?

Am I limiting my sources of knowledge?

Have I chosen one main course or one mentor whose methods I trust, instead of listening to 20 different “gurus” all at once?

2. Practice: From theory to agency

Once you’re mentally prepared, you need to start taking action right away. The key is to quickly shift from being a passive content consumer to an active user.

DONT’S:

Don’t linger in theory. There’s no such thing as “AI-ology” — studying AI for the sake of studying. Spending a month reading about transformer architectures, the history of language models and the philosophical implications of AGI won’t teach you how AI can cut the time it takes to write a report by half. This is classic analysis paralysis. Don’t wait until you “understand everything” or “master the art of writing prompts.” In the world of AI, technology changes so fast that by the time you finish reading a manual for version 4.0, version 5.0 will be released and your theoretical knowledge will be outdated.

DOs:

Move from theory to practice as quickly as possible. Experiment relentlessly. The key to catching the “bug” is the quick sense of agency — the “Eureka!” moment when you realize that technology has actually done 30 minutes of tedious work for you, written a sensible piece of code or summarized a 20-page document in three points.

Most importantly: test AI in the areas that are closest to you and you need the most. Don’t try to solve abstract problems. Solve your problems.

Do you need to write a report by Thursday? Instead of asking “How do I write reports?”, just upload your data (make sure it’s anonymized!) and request: “Generate 5 key insights from these data” or “Suggest a structure for a managerial report based on these points”.

Do you want to build your personal brand? Instead of asking “How to build a brand?” try saying: “I am an expert in logistics. Send me three ideas for LinkedIn posts that will showcase my knowledge about supply chain optimization.”

This is real learning. At CampusAI, we’ve created career paths and courses that help you make those first steps safely and clearly. We don’t teach “about AI” — we teach how to use AI for specific tasks in marketing, finance or HR, guiding you through real-world use cases.

Checklist

Use this list to make sure that your learning translates into real skills, not just passive knowledge.

Your goal: To quickly feel a sense of agency and real value.

The 80/20 rule:

Do I spend at least 80% of my time dedicated to “learning AI” actively in the tool (writing prompts) and no more than 20% passively (reading/watching)?

I’m solving my problem:

Is the task I’m currently carrying out in AI directly related to my work or life (e.g., “I’ll summarize this mail”, “I’ll draft a project plan”)?

I’m experimenting with prompts:

Am I trying to ask the same question in three different ways?

Am I adding context (“I’m a marketer…”?

Am I asking for a specific format (“Return it as a table…”)?

I treat AI as a partner:

Am I “talking” to the model? Am I asking for clarifications, criticizing its responses (“This isn’t formal enough, write it again”) and iterating instead of accepting the first answer?

I document “small wins”:

Do I save (for example, in a separate notebook) prompts that have yielded great results? Do I note how much time I’ve saved thanks to AI?

3. Data hygiene and security — the pillars you’re overlooking

This is the stage where most enthusiasts lay out their efforts. They’re so excited about the generation possibilities (output) that they completely forget about their responsibility for the input. But it’s the input that defines the quality and safety of the entire process.

Data hygiene

DON’Ts:

Don’t underestimate this stage. Never throw chaos into AI expecting order in return. The principle of “Garbage In, Garbage Out” (GIGO) is magnified in the era of AI. The model is not a fortune teller. If you feed it a sloppy, unstructured data set, you’ll get a sloppy, generic analysis in return. You’ll quickly conclude that “this AI is stupid”, when in fact the problem lies with the raw material.

DOs:

Take time to understand WHAT you are feeding the model. Organize your databases, properly name the columns in Excel and make sure the data is consistent. Learn to anonymize it if necessary — remove surnames, personal IDs and contact details. Don’t be afraid to step away from learning about prompts for a moment and focus on the absolute basics of data science. Trust me — it will pay off in the long run. Understanding how to organize, clean and effectively “serve” data is a meta-skill that will stay with you for decades, extending far beyond the context of LLMs alone. It’s a skill in structuring information, crucial in every field.

Safety

DON’Ts:

Don’t think that it’s just about you and your convenience. Don’t treat security as a “problem for the IT department”. By uploading data to public models, you’re not only risking your private notes. You’re also risking the unique ideas of your company, next quarter’s marketing strategies, confidential client data or your app’s source code. Pasting your company’s internal strategy into a public chat to “make a presentation out of it” is not clever — it’s a data breach.

DOs:

Learn to recognize threats from day one. Ask yourself a fundamental question: “Would I feel comfortable if what I’m pasting right now appeared on the front page of a widely accessible website tomorrow?” If the answer is “no”, DON’T PASTE IT into a public tool. Understand which tools, like free public versions, openly admit that they train on your data and which ones, like Enterprise versions or on-premise solutions, guarantee your privacy. Managing this risk is now a fundamental part of digital competence.

Checklist

Use this list every time you plan to feed into AI any data that’s not publicly available.

Your goal: To use the power of AI without putting yourself, your company or your clients at risk.

Data hygiene (quality)

Are the data clean?

Have I checked the data for obvious errors, typos or missing fields?

Are the data understandable to AI?

Are the columns in the table clearly labeled? But we forget that most people are still grappling with the basics. Without a solid foundation, any more complex effort or ambitious implementation will simply fail at the first serious challenge.

That’s why our mission as leaders of this change is not just to focus on the most advanced capabilities. Our mission is to go back to the very beginning and patiently support others in those first crucial steps.

This list is just a starting point, an invitation to engage in conscious education — for ourselves and others. True AI adoption doesn’t mean that a few people know everything, but rather that everyone knows enough to use it wisely, productively and safely.
