GPT-5-Codex can independently write long sections of code, debug, add new features and tests, and thoroughly improve existing code.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key updates<\/h4><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A key element is intelligent code review. The model can analyze repositories, run tests and point out potential errors before they appear in subsequent project iterations. Importantly, according to tests involving experienced software engineers, comments now generated by GPT-5-Codex are significantly more accurate than those by GPT-5. Inaccurate comments constituted only 4.4% of the total, while in the previous version, this percentage reached 13.7%.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A very significant change is the dynamic management of work time. The model adjusts on its own how much time it spends on a task \u2014 from a few seconds for simple prompts to up to seven hours during complex refactoring, which involves correcting and restructuring existing code.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next innovation is coding style personalization. GPT-5-Codex can adapt to individual programmer preferences, adhere to organizational guidelines and run tests iteratively until positive results are achieved. This way, the code not only works correctly but also complies with the standards in force within the team.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where does Codex operate?<\/h4><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GPT-5-Codex isn&#8217;t available in ChatGPT or through the API. It operates solely within the Codex ecosystem \u2014 in the terminal (CLI), IDE (extensions), in the cloud, on GitHub and in the ChatGPT app for iOS. It can be accessed by users with Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise plans.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s worth adding that Codex CLI has been released as an open source project. It&#8217;s a local coding agent that allows you to directly transform natural language into functioning code \u2014 from fixing bugs to building entire applications.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GPT-5-Codex and the competition<\/h4><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The launch of GPT-5-Codex marks an increasingly fierce competition in the market of AI for developers. The most well-known competitor is GitHub Copilot, developed by Microsoft and GitHub, which has been serving as a virtual assistant in code editors for several years. Copilot excels at real-time suggestions and makes writing shorter code snippets easier, but it&#8217;s less specialized in long-term, complex tasks such as multi-hour refactorings or thorough code reviews.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anthropic&#8217;s Claude Code is also increasingly making its mark, along with Cursor AI and other solutions from startups specialized in integrations with IDEs and CI\/CD systems, which are trying to capture the niche between simple &#8220;prompters&#8221; and advanced AI agents.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OpenAI positions GPT-5-Codex differently: as a full-fledged member of the development team that not only suggests solutions but also independently implements, tests and refines them in long work cycles. This is set to be a key advantage of Codex over Copilot and other competitors.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, the battle is no longer just about who can quickly suggest a missing line of code.
