OpenAI promises that the new model will completely transform the way we use their flagship service. It’s supposed to be simpler, faster and, above all, smarter.

No more technical chaos

Existing models and their purposes won’t be eliminated, but will be enhanced with a booster named GPT-5, which will automate the selection of techniques for our prompts. Until now, if you used ChatGPT, you had to manually decide which version of the model to use — whether GPT-3.5 or newer ones like GPT-4o or even GPT-o3 mini. This need to choose added unnecessary chaos and required some technical orientation from you, which could lead to frustration and wasting time when searching for the optimal solution.

The new operating system means that the chatbot itself will intelligently and dynamically decide when to apply the simplest and most effective method (known from models like GPT-3.5 or GPT-4.5) and when to unleash full computational power with advanced reasoning (e.g., GPT-o3).

No more missing out on the best models

OpenAI not only standardizes the model but also makes it available to everyone, contributing to the democratization of access to advanced artificial intelligence. The new model will even reach users of the free version of ChatGPT, and that too without the need to create an account.

Of course, there is a catch here as well. Individuals who use paid subscriptions will still have access to full computing power, higher prompt limits, faster performance and a range of even more advanced features.

No more “forgetting”

One of the biggest limitations of current AI models is their tendency to “forget” previous interactions, user preferences and previously established context. GPT-5 aims to change this with two key improvements: a significantly longer context window and permanent memory.

Currently, users often complain about the too small context windows of ChatGPT, which makes working with long documents difficult, while competitors like Claude (200,000 tokens) and Gemini Pro (up to 2 million tokens) already offer impressive capabilities in this area. GPT-5 is set to somewhat match them. Reports suggest that it will support context windows up to 256,000 tokens. This means that the model will be able to process entire books, extensive financial reports or legal documents in a single session, without the need to split content or manually manage context.

Sticky memory is equally important. This means that the model will remember conversations, user preferences and the style of every interaction. This way, AI is transformed from a simple tool into a true team partner. No more repeating the same information or re-establishing the tone.

No more mono-models

GPT-5 is not just text. It is expected to be a fully multimodal model, seamlessly integrating text, images, sound and voice. There is also a possibility that video capabilities will be added later on. This means that you will be able to summarize a podcast, generate working code from a screenshot of a user interface, and even perform frame-by-frame video analysis — all within a single, unified interface. Altman also suggested “significant” voice improvements that could even rival human speech.

Moreover, OpenAI is actively developing AI Agents — significantly more advanced tools capable of performing complex tasks without continuous user intervention. GPT-5 will have built-in tool usage. The model will know where to look. It will be able to retrieve new information from the web, write Python code, search through files or analyze documents without the need for explicit instructions.

Additionally, according to The Information, it will also be possible to create spreadsheets and presentations directly in ChatGPT, which will eliminate the need for a Microsoft Office subscription. The new features will allow to create comprehensive reports based on public and corporate data, plan meetings, conduct online operations, perform automated research and manage customer service workflows.

The beginning of something new

Although Sam Altman announced these revolutionary changes as early as the beginning of 2025, the official release date for GPT-5 is still unknown, though it should not be later than September

We just have to wait and see if the partial information from OpenAI and the leaks will be confirmed.

Because… ChatGPT will no longer just be a chat.
