These are the kinds of projects I recommend looking for this summer and fall, whether on holidays or while taking short city breaks.

Recently, the Polish artistic duo NOVIKI won the prestigious European Design Award for Sen maszyny (The Machine’s Dream), an installation created as part of the BMW Art Club. The work explores the theme of artificial intelligence hallucinations and the blurring of the line between algorithmic logic and human dreams. Last year, it was on display in Krakow and it was really worth seeing. If you missed it, you have another chance, as it will soon be shown at the Noorderlicht Biennale 2025 (July 12–September 7) in the Netherlands, which this year takes place under the theme Machine Entanglements.

Plants fuel art

BMW Art Club, whose motto is “The Future is Art”, has been proving for years that artificial intelligence is a direction worth heading towards. Peugeot is following a similar path, after announcing together with Saatchi Gallery the contest Artist of the Future Prize for young digital creators. The prizes and the contest exhibition are planned by the end of the year, but we can already visit the innovative exhibition Powered by Nature at the aforementioned Saatchi Gallery, also sponsored by Peugeot. It’s a tale about plants, soil and microorganisms that literally power art. The whole photo session, which is the heart of the exhibition, is illuminated by power generated by plants, soil, water and organic waste. Visitors can also look at the world from the perspective of bees, that is, through ultraviolet patterns, scents and vibrations. It’s the perfect example of how art can educate in terms of ecology and innovation.

The theme of bees, or more broadly pollinators, appears quite often. In Berlin, in front of the Naturkunde Museum, you can see Pollinator Pathmaker by Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg — a living sculpture created from over 7,000 plants specifically selected for pollinators like bees, butterflies, flies and beetles. It’s the first continental edition of the project, which instead of talking about other species, creates art for them.

Thanks to AI, a garden has been created that responds to the needs of insects. The installation is not only an artistic intervention but also a call for empathetic, interspecies thinking during the climate crisis and biodiversity decline.

The world seen through the “eyes” of artificial intelligence

At the Jeu de Paume in Paris, the exhibition The World Through AI (until September 21) showcases the world “through the eyes of artificial intelligence” and challenges visitors with questions about AI’s impact on aesthetics, memory and perception. The exhibition focuses on two types of AI: analytical and generative. Time capsules link the history of automation with today’s challenges. Alongside creators like Trevor Paglen or Hito Steyerl, you’ll find Polish artist Agnieszka Kurant. Her works tackle issues such as the economy of invisible labor, the ecological impact of technology and relations between AI and forms of life. Additionally, they redefine what intelligence even is — posing the question to viewers of how to understand and coexist with “non-human” intelligence.

At the same exhibition, you can also see Kate Crawford’s research-art project titled Calculating Empires: A Genealogy of Power and Technology, 1500-2025, which she created with Vladan Joler. It’s a monumental visual story that shows how technical and social structures have co-evolved over five centuries — from al-Khwarizmi’s algorithms to modern neural networks — revealing the historical roots of today’s technologies and their ties to colonialism, militarization and automation.

“Calculating Empires: A Genealogy of Technology and Power, 1500-2025”, by Kate Crawford and Vladan Joler, Paris

Vacation plans in Switzerland, Austria and Spain

If you’re planning a trip through Switzerland or Austria soon, I have two recommendations: HEK Basel — Other Intelligences (May 10–August 10, 2025) about organic, synthetic, plant and animal intelligence, how AI works, but also how fungi and insects think. It’s also worth visiting Ars Electronica (Linz), a permanent exhibition that teaches humility and inspires to ask the right questions. Additionally, in September (September 3–7, 2025) there is a festival themed Panic – Yes or Not? also in Linz.

Interacting with the Hybrid Other Intelligences

Meanwhile, in Bilbao, Spain (July 3 –December 10, 2025), you can check out Refik Anadol’s project Living Architecture: Gehry — a site-specific installation that transforms architecture into an AI-generated, living, changeable form. It’s impressive not just visually, but also because the work uses open source data and operates on sustainable processing principles. Honestly, Refik hardly needs any introduction — he’s probably the most recognized artist working with AI today. Every time I’ve seen his installations, whether in Copenhagen, Basel, Singapore, London or Seoul, I couldn’t take my eyes off them.

Autumn vacation? Here are more art exhibitions

In Munich (Pinakothek der Moderne), Rupert Huber presents Begegnungsmusik — a musical installation activated by the movement of visitors. Each interaction produces a new sound. It’s a beautiful metaphor for meeting; people become creators of music.

At the end of the summer, we’re heading back to Italy. In Milan (June 12–September 14, 2025), Kevin Abosch is showcasing Parallax — a generative video piece that explores the concept of parallax. It’s a story about perception, identity and the boundaries between humans and machines. Later in the fall (October 5–November 23, 2025), it’s worth visiting the Architecture Biennale in Venice where this year’s theme is Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective. Here you can also see the previously mentioned work strong>Calculating Empires by Kate Crawford and Vladan Joler. I saw it in Paris and I highly recommend it.

In the fall, I recommend the Némo Biennale (Paris, October 11, 2025 – January 11, 2026). The program hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s always a thoughtful event featuring digital art in the context of social and technological changes.

Last but not least, this fall, make sure to drop by Łódź to visit the Central Museum of Textiles, where from October 11th you can see an installation by Agnieszka Piłat. In Weaving Intelligence, the main role is played by a learning robot that weaves fabric under the watchful eye of the artist. The project not only revisits the history of the Jacquard loom but also raises questions about the future of work, automation and the boundaries between the tool and the coworker.

Below, I’d like to leave a list of places and exhibitions I’ve already seen or plan to visit soon. I wholeheartedly recommend them for openness, inspiration, and a broader perspective on the future.

What, where, when:

Dream of the Machine – Noviki, Biennale Noorderlicht, Groningen, July 12–September 07, 2025

Powered by Nature, Saatchi Gallery, London, May 30–July 27, 2025

Pollinator Pathmaker –
