This initiative was launched by the National Research Institute and the Military Medical Institute, which invited leading academic and medical centers to join, including the University of Warsaw, the Medical University of Lublin, and the Świętokrzyskie Oncology Center.

The group’s goal is to implement modern technologies in the medical sector, develop AI algorithms for data analysis, and implement advanced surgical tools currently imported from abroad. At the same time, a strong emphasis is placed on the development of native technologies that could compete in international markets.

Surgical robotics: the future of medicine in Poland

In recent years, the number of operations using surgical robots in Poland has significantly increased. In 2023 alone, there was a twofold increase in such procedures, particularly in general surgery and urology. Currently, there are 43 centers equipped with surgical robots in the country.

Although surgical robotics brings many benefits, such as increased precision and minimizing the risk of human error, it also requires strict supervision. The Patient Rights Ombudsman points out that even surgeries performed with the support of robots can have complications. A well-known example was the case in Rzeszów, where an incorrect setting of the robot’s arm prolonged the patient’s hospitalization.

This incident highlighted the need for more thorough preoperative tests and the implementation of stricter training standards for surgeons who control robots. Thus, enhancing the robotic systems themselves becomes crucial, but so does investing in the education of doctors to enable them to collaborate as effectively as possible with this advanced technology.

Robin Heart AI – the Polish surgical robot

One of the most groundbreaking achievements of Polish medicine is Robin Heart AI – a surgical robot developed by scientists from the Foundation for Cardiac Surgery Development in Zabrze. Its biggest advantage is the ability to predict and support the surgeon’s movements, which translates to greater precision of procedures and a reduced risk of errors.

But that’s just the beginning. Robin Heart AI can also autonomously complete specific movements, which shortens surgery times and reduces the burden on doctors. Compared to foreign systems like da Vinci, it stands out with its adaptive AI algorithms, which analyze the course of previous surgeries and optimize surgical techniques.

Currently, tests are ongoing for different operating modes—semi-automatic and fully controlled by a doctor—which will allow to better tailor the technology to the needs of different medical facilities.

The future of medical robotics according to the NFZ

During a conversation with the RynekZdrowia.pl portal Dariusz Dziełak, Director of Public Partnership and Innovation at the National Health Fund (NFZ), emphasized that the future of medical robotics in Poland requires close cooperation between the public and private sectors. We also hear that the NFZ plans to establish stable frameworks for financing, as well as regulations that will allow to further develop robotic technologies in hospitals. However, two aspects will be crucial: an efficient system for training doctors and adapting hospital infrastructure to modern technological standards.

How artificial intelligence, surgical robotics and telemedicine are transforming Polish healthcare.

[783,790
738,739

36
660
post-11317","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ai-industry","category-health-medicine","tag-medicine","tag-robin-heart-ai-2","difficulty-level-easy
"url2x":"https://haimagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/freepik__retouch__63609.png
Śledzę najnowsze technologiczne trendy, w tym AI.
